An Independent Governing Body Founded in 2013

Setting the Standards and
Shaping the Future of the Professions.
About
On this page, you can learn more about the full scope of our work. We collaborate with healthcare professionals, policymakers, and partner organisations to strengthen professional standards and promote responsible health education. Through coordinated engagement and public awareness initiatives, we aim to advance informed, accountable practice and support higher standards across integrative and manual healthcare.

What We Do
-
Public Professional Register
Check whether a practitioner is registered, qualified, and in good standing. -
Clear Standards of Practice
We define what our members are trained and permitted to do, and where referral to other healthcare professionals is required. -
Complaints & Concerns Process
Members of the public can raise concerns about a registered practitioner through a transparent review process. -
Ongoing Professional Development
Our members are required to complete Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain competence and stay current. -
Fitness-to-Practise Oversight
We investigate serious concerns and can take disciplinary action where standards are not met. -
Public Education
We provide accessible information about naprapathic and naturopathic practice, scope of care, and professional standards. -
Community Engagement
We support educational talks, awareness initiatives, and community outreach to promote responsible, evidence-informed practice. -
Ethical Framework
All members must adhere to a published Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics. -
Independent Oversight
External examiners and governance processes help ensure standards are maintained. -
Work with, integrate and educate with other health care professionals. Networking and collaborating to raise awareness and clinical competency standards for our patients.
-
Public Protection First
Our primary responsibility is safeguarding the public through structured professional standards and accountability.
Vision
Every serious profession requires accountability. That accountability is built through structured education, transparent governance, research, and the responsible evolution of professional scope.

We pursue this through the advancement of research, the education of practitioners, and engagement with the public. Professional standards must not remain static; they must be defined, examined, and continuously strengthened.

Statutory regulation of naturopathy and naprapathy in the United Kingdom is unlikely to emerge rapidly, in part because the disciplines have historically been eclectic and inconsistently defined. In the absence of statutory oversight, the responsibility for order, clarity, and accountability rests with the profession itself.

The Society of Naturopathic and Naprapathic Doctors (SNND) exists to provide that structure. We define, maintain, and monitor professional standards through a formal system of self-regulation grounded in competence, ethics, and public protection.

Our systems of self-regulation are subject to independent external review and audit by experienced professionals from outside our immediate structures, including academics, general practitioners, physiotherapists, and other qualified experts. Their independent reports are made publicly available in the interest of transparency.

Professional credibility requires scrutiny. Any association unwilling to subject its standards and processes to independent examination risks falling short of the level of accountability that both the public and its members rightly expect.

This is why we incorporate Internal and External Quality Assurance practices within our organisation, and insist on it with those who we associate with including accredited training providers.
